At Thursday’s meeting the administration for the 2016-17 Optimist year was installed. The new leaders of the EOC are as follows; PRESIDENT: Gary Day, VICE-PRESIDENTS: Phil Beam & Edie Beck, 2 YEAR DIRECTORS: Ed Briggs & Helen Fox, 1 YEAR DIRECTORS: Liz Fraboni & Pat Tode. Despite the humor that is generally applied to being elected as an officer of the club it is because of members willing to give of their time and talents that the club is approaching 60 years. Keep up the good work!
OPTIMIST YOUTH CAMP
The forms for next year’s camp have been revised and packets prepared. Next month, members of the EOC will be attending a meeting of the APS Middle School Principals to promote the camp and distribute the packets. According to information we have received students have been inquiring about the camp and how to apply. If this is any indication of the interest, we should have a full house next year. Let’s start working on those donations!
The camp will be closing for the year on Saturday & Sunday, October 23 & 24. This requires closing the cabins and storing the equipment and help is needed. If you would like to spend a part of your weekend in the cool Fall air and get some exercise this is your chance. I think that food and beverages will be available for those willing workers.
ANNUAL CHARTER PARTY
The celebration of the chartering of the EOC will be on Saturday, October 29 at the County Line restaurant form 6 to 9 PM. The meal will be served family style and will consist of beef, sausage, chicken, potato salad, cole slaw and rolls. Cost is about $22.50 per person including tax and gratuity. The Charter Party is when the President recognizes members of the club for their contributions during the year. Also, the A. J. Vanlandingham revolving plaque is presented to the Optimist of the year to keep in their possession until the next recipient is chosen. If they are lucky enough to receive it the following year they can continue to dust and polish it for another year.
There is still time to sign up to volunteer for the Fiesta and you can do so by going to the web site http://www.kiwanisfiestawork.org . There are shifts for both the morning and evening events and you can select the days you want to work. Remember, this is a fund raiser for the club!
NM/WT DISTRICT BOARD MEETING
The 1st quarter board meeting will be November 11-13 in Taos, NM at the Sagebrush Inn & Suites. Registration is to be mailed to Melody Moon, P.O. Box 4693, El Paso, Texas 79914 postmarked by October 31. Room rates are $84 plus tax and the deadline is October 28 or until room block is filled. Registration forms can be obtained from your Lt. Governor. According to the weather reports this weekend you can probably bring your skis.
DUE TO THE BALLOON FIESTA AND SOME MEMBERS OF THE BOARD NOT BEING AVAILABLE THERE WILL BE NO BOARD MEETING IN OCTOBER.
