A new member has been added to the EOC family, Genica Lee.  Genica does makeup for the film industry.  Maybe she can make us more photogenic.

The District board meeting and convention was held in Albuquerque August 10 – 12 and the main order of business was the installation of District officers for the 2017 – 18 Optimist year.  Lynn Martin is Governor Designate and her administration will begin October 1.  Lynn has been a supporter and friend of all the clubs in Albuquerque so let’s do all we can to make her year a successful one.  Suzanne Ownings received the Curly Roose award for her service to the District.  Curly was an active member of the Albuquerque club into his ninety’s and attended 45 Optimist International conventions.  Congratulations, Suzanne!

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is October 7 – 15.  This is an opportunity to put some money in our treasury by volunteering to work some of the events.  Last year the club received about $9 per hour for each person who worked the fiesta.  Check your calendar and decide when you can work and sign up o the Kiwanis website kiwanisfiestawork.org.

Remember the Entertainment books?  Well, now you can buy an Entertainment card.  Like the book it has discounts for a wide variety of activities and services in your wallet.  The card is good for one (1) year from the date of activation so there is no missing out on discounts and it is good anywhere in the U.S.  For those who have a smart phone it’s always with you.  The cost is $20 and the club keeps $8.  Gary has cards available.  This would be a nice gift!

The NOW program is New Optimists Welcome and is intended to bring members into the club.  There will be a citywide event on Saturday, August 26, from 1 – 3 PM at Manzano Mesa Park, 501 Elizabeth SE or 745 Stephen Moody SE.  The advantage to a citywide event is all clubs can be present and prospects can choose a club that meets their individual needs.  If you have someone you would like to join bring them.
