SOIREE 11/3/2014

Well, we celebrated the EOC Birthday Party Saturday night with members. spouses and guests.  It was good to see so many in attendance and we even had some special guests.  Larry German former member, past Distinguished President and past Distinguished Governor graced us with his presence and humor.  A surprise guest was District Governor John Cowart and he spoke about the importance of Optimism in our daily lives and sharing it with others.  He also congratulated the club on our length of service which is nearly half as long as the Optimist organization has been in existance.  President Leland spoke about the importantance of adding new members who bring to the club new projects and opportunities for fund raising.  But the night belonged to Past President Bob as he presented awards to club members for their contributions to the club projects and fund raising with the A.J. Vanlandingham Optimist of the Year award going to Pat Tode.  The food was good!  The fellowship was great!  The evening was a success!

At the meeting this week we have a progam.  Jeff Beg, Title I Director, will speak about the students in APS who don’t have a place to call “their” home.  We help some of these students by providing bicycles for transportation to and from school or work.  Let’s have a good attendance this week!  Do you have a program that you would like the club to hear?  Let the “Prez” know.

This weekend the District Board meeting will be here in Albuquerque at the MCM Elegante Hotel. The EOC is responsible for staffing the Braggers Hall.  The Braggers Hall is something new that is being tried where clubs display some of their community projects to share with the other clubs.  The displays will be voted on by members attending and the winner will receive a prize.  We need members to staff the hall from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday and 8:00 AM to 11:45 AM on Saturday.  Your hours can be flexible.
